HR projects

Defined scope. Fixed fee.Finished.

Not everything needs an ongoing arrangement. Some things need one experienced person to come in, do the work properly, and leave you with something that stands up.

How it works

Scoped up front, priced up front

You tell me the problem. I come back with what’s actually involved, what it costs, and how long it takes, before you commit to anything. If the scope changes, we agree that before the work happens rather than after the invoice.

Fixed fee, not day rate. A day rate rewards me for taking longer, which is a strange thing to build into a relationship.

What is HR project consultancy?

HR project consultancy is defined-scope people work delivered for a fixed fee rather than an ongoing retainer: a restructure, a policy rewrite, an HRIS audit, a compensation review, a piece of employee relations casework. You agree the scope, timeline and price before the work starts.

Typical projects

What people bring me

Change

Restructures and redundancy

Consultation run properly, the process documented, and managers who know what to say in the room.

Compliance

October 2026 harassment duty

Risk assessment, policy, training and the reporting route. A fixed-fee package that closes the whole obligation.

Documents

Policy and handbook rewrites

When what you have is out of date, contradictory, or inherited from a company you no longer resemble.

Systems

HRIS audit and rescue

An implementation that stalled, or a system nobody trusts because the data in it is wrong.

Casework

Employee relations

A grievance, a disciplinary, a performance process. Run properly by someone who has done hundreds.

Insight

Engagement surveys

Including the part everyone skips, which is deciding what you’ll actually do with the answers.

Structure

Org design and headcount planning

Usually before a raise, after a raise, or when spans of control have quietly got out of hand.

Exits

Settlement and difficult exits

Handled cleanly, alongside your solicitors, without it becoming the story the rest of the team tells.

If yours isn’t on this list, it probably still fits. Ask.

Process

Four steps, no surprises

Questions

What founders ask

How much does a project cost?

It depends entirely on scope, which is why you get a number before you commit rather than an hourly rate and a hope.

What if we don’t know what we need?

That’s most first calls. Describing the symptom is enough; working out the actual problem is part of what you’re paying for.

Can a project turn into something ongoing?

Often. A fair number of fractional clients started with one piece of work and kept going. There’s no obligation either way.

Do you work with our solicitors?

Yes, and I’ll tell you when something needs them. The legal advice is theirs, the process and the people work are mine.

Next step

Tell me the problem. I’ll tell you what it takes.
