Fractional People Leadership
what even is fractional people leadership?
Senior People leadership for a day or two a week, not a full-time hire. Here is what that actually means, and when it is the right call.
Fractional means an experienced People leader embedded in your business part-time. They own the people strategy the way a full-time CHRO would, sized to the time (and cost) your stage actually needs. One or two days a week, not five.
Most founder-led companies hit the same wall. The team has grown past the point where the people stuff runs itself, but you cannot yet justify a senior hire on a full-time salary. So it lands on a founder, a People Ops Lead, or nobody. Fractional fills exactly that gap: real seniority, sized to where you are now.
Not advice from the sidelines. A fractional leader is embedded: in your tools, your meetings, your team. They build the foundations (levelling, pay, hiring, performance, the systems underneath) and coach your managers through growth. When you outgrow fractional, they help you hire their own replacement.
Usually yes if you have recently raised, you are hiring quickly, the people questions are getting louder, and there is no senior People person in the building yet. Fractional is the cleanest way to get it right early without overcommitting.
Versus a full-time CHRO: the same seniority, a fraction of the cost.
Versus generalist HR or a People Ops Lead: strategy and structure, not just admin.
Versus a one-off consultancy project: ongoing ownership, not a deck and a handshake.
